Kaylin

I was able to fly back to San Diego to help Kaylin get settled at the University of San Diego.  I am so happy that I had the opportunity.  The University is beautiful!  Kaylin checked in 3 days early to go on a pre-orientation retreat through Campus Ministry.  She had a wonderful time and met some very nice people.

It was nice to be able to move her in 3 days before the other freshmen.  We were able to avoid a lot of the chaos!  Anyone who has dropped a child off at college knows the chaos I am talking about!  Her room is great and her roommate seems very nice.  Of course, as luck would have it, her roommate's name is Caitlin:)

Kaylin returned from the retreat on Friday and was able to have dinner with my parents and me.  On Saturday the orientation events began.  She was able to walk around with some girls Saturday morning meeting everyone since she was already moved into her room. Then we came over in the afternoon and attended a dinner with her that night.  Sunday there were some activities for the students as well as some for the parents followed by a very nice Welcome Mass.  After that the parents said goodbye.  According to Grandpa Jay there were many crying moms and daughters.  Not us though.  Tomorrow she will begin classes.

I spent Monday eating some more Mexican food and running to a few stores to get things PJ, Grace and Meg had requested.  Tuesday morning I boarded a plane in San Diego headed back to Hong Kong via San Francisco and Tokyo.  I thought the interesting part of my trip was over and the long, boring part was here.  Not so much!  Our take-off out of San Francisco was a little delayed, but after reaching altitude the pilot came on the intercom to say the winds were favorable and we would still make it into Tokyo on time.  Two and a half hours later the pilot came on the intercom again to say they were going to have to turn of the entertainment system for a few minutes.  Thirty minutes later he came on to say "Ladies and gentlemen we are having some difficulties and since Tokyo is farther away than San Francisco we have turned around and we are headed back to San Francisco."  I really can't make this up, three hours out over the ocean and we had to turn around and head back!  Thankfully we made it back safe and sound and I am booked on a direct flight to Hong Kong tomorrow afternoon.
